The code is ugly, so I won't post it -- unless someone really wants it. I just wanted to get this project done so it's really band-aided together. All in all, it was about 2 hours of assembly and 8 hours of programming. It features 6 different modes: Color Selector, 2-tone Gradient, Ripple Effect, Lava Lamp, Fireplace, and Whiteout.
At any point you can push the auxiliary pushbutton and it will transition to white for a cool, clean, (and very bright) white working light. Push it again and it softly transitions back to the mode you were last on. I started to implement a dimming feature, but gave up for the sake of getting the project completed.
I know updates have been few and far between, but they will resume again at a normal pace -- I promise. Don't think I've given up working on some new Chippernut ideas, either. :-) I'm working on some exciting stuff. V2 code for the existing shift light is complete, I just have to run it through some tests. Also: here's a teaser currently on my breadboard. There's a significant shortage of wires... but hopefully soon...

Very cool idea! I'm looking to do this exact same thing. Any chance you could post the code?
