Are.
Freaking.
Cool.

We're excited to announce the first addition to the StarChip family of LED products:  The StarChip16.  This teeny, tiny rigid LED bar is just over 1-1/2" inches long and crams 16 LEDs along that length.

They are modular, too!  So you can tile multiple of them together to make any length you require.

Fully compatible with the Chippernut Shift light and other Arduino projects. They come with a 4-pin header and VHB tape for mounting.

Check them out!!

Amazing work by Speed of Sound, LLC. Check them out on Facebook and Instagram. They have some really awesome custom-fab stuff! Thanks for sharing!

The Mustang crowd doesn't see this every day. Matter of fact, they've never seen it. Always fun trying new tech, new processes, and new techniques.

Hi Everyone,

Still here - I know I don't post very often. I'm trying to carve out time for blog posts, social media, marketing, and posting new items for sale. Here we have one such item that's been sitting on my desk for a few months.

These 12" 4-Pin connectors make it easy to extend your shift light LEDs.  No more cutting and extending the wires manually! You can daisy-chain these together to mount your LED strip further away from your shift light controller.

That's all for now. I'm still working on a promotional video for the shift light. Hopefully that can go out soon and I'll send out an email to everyone.

Stay tuned!

Tech Pages, Forum Woes. Oh, and Holiday Lights!

12/5/2017

Hi Everyone! I updated the Tech Pages for legacy shift lights and the RPM simulator. Check it out!  Let me know if I missed anything.
Picture
You may have noticed the forums are only available via external link.  Yeah...  The saga continues.  After more than a year of waiting for tech support from Tal.ki to fix this junk, the forums continue to be a sore point for me.  To make matters worse, I can no longer log into my admin account. This means I can't create new threads, respond as Chippernut, or answer member questions (or get notifications apparently). I'm really over it.
A recent poll I posted in this blog has shown the overwhelming majority of poll-respondents do find the forums valuable. My website visitor statistics corroborate these results. The forums continue to see the largest "views" among all other pages.  That being said, I'm actively looking for a new forum provider. Unfortunately, this means it's quite likely the majority of the data in the forums may be lost. :-(  Not cool.  I'll continue to work on this and keep you updated. I'll do my best to retain the data, but I wont' make any promises.
In other news, I found myself in the market for a new tree topper. The antiquated, hand-me-down, incandescent fraken-topper warmly glowed for the last time this season. I picked up a replacement on eBay (Capiz Snowflake Twisted Wire) that I thought looked classy and robust (it'd better last 15 years like it's predecessor).  Upon receiving it, well, I couldn't leave well-enough alone.  Caution: Copious amounts of hot glue.
I was quite impressed with the construction of the topper. The decorative front resembled a stained glass window (but with plastic). The soldered metal frame was fastened to a sub-frame with 3 bolts. This sub-frame held a set of incandescent light bulbs and winds into a coil for tree attachment. I managed to strap 60 WS2812B LEDs to the sub-frame and a Nano. Powered off a 3A 5V cell-phone charger, the entire setup took mere minutes to wire-up.  I loaded a modified version of my under-cabinet lighting "Mood Lamp" code.  Overall, for about 2 hours of modification, I'm quite happy with it.  I'm already thinking about different modes, brightness levels, etc. but I'll probably wait until next year before I try something new.

Stay Tuned!

V3.11 Update

9/28/2017

I noticed a minor issue when more than 25 LEDs were programmed in the menu. The system would slow and become a bit jumpy. I further optimized the code, removed some redundancy, and the system gained a significant amount of performance in RPM pickup resolution. I've posted V3.11 code to the TECH pages. All shift light kits shipped on or after 9/28/2017 will have the new code automatically uploaded.

The DIY kits are available for purchase! I'm also extending the sale on assembled kits for a limited time.

I'm currently working on shooting and editing some promotional videos for V3 of the shift light. I'm also trying some new tech that may be appealing for custom installations of the shift light.  More to come soon!

V3.1 Code and Schematics Online

9/18/2017

The code, documents, schematics for the V3.1 Shift Light are available for download in the new "Tech" page. I'm adding this new section of the website as a permanent repository of information. (Still under construction)

Click Here: Shift Light V3.1 Information

I had an idea to remove the forums - they don't seem all that active, though I do see a lot of information I could aggregate in the "Source" pages. The support is lacking from the provider and it has some bugs  -- tell me what you think.  Should I remove the forums or keep them?

Do you find the forums useful?
